Creative Climate Communications & Music Sustainability Consulting

ABOUT ME

Michael "Mikey” Jacobs is a passionate climate communicator, creative activist, and rising second-year Environmental & Natural Resources Policy (ENRP) specialist in CU Boulder's Masters of the Environment program.

He works at the intersection of environmental justice, music, and art, bringing bold ideas to life through grassroots projects, policy consulting, and community engagement. His past work with Boulder County's Office of Sustainability, Climate Action & Resilience (OSCAR) informs his systems-thinking approach to both government strategy and public outreach.

MikeyJ is especially known for pioneering music sustainability efforts in Colorado's independent venue scene, curating artist-facing communications and fan engagement strategies that make climate action feel loud, joyful, and authentic. Whether hosting panels, creating wearable activism, or building sustainability plans for live venues, MikeyJ's work is rooted in creativity, collaboration, and unapologetic hope.

As someone who grew up on the outskirts of a wildlife preserves, I have had nature as the backdrop to some of the most pivotal moments of my life, and it is because of this and my overall deep rooted connection with Nature that I believe I feel so clear and sure that THIS is where I am meant to be, and this is what I am meant to be doing.

Social Media Coordinator

GivinginParis (2016 - 2018)

My story really began when I took a role as a social media coordinator with a volunteer group called Giving in Paris, providing humanitarian aid to Syrian refugee’s in Paris, France in 2017. What began with taking pictures and advocating for basic human rights for these refugees, later turned into organizing the largest protest I have ever been a part of. It was through this venture that I realized the collective power of individuals to influence systemic change.

Youth Climate Leader

Earth Guardians & the Climate Reality Project

(2018 - 2020)

After moving from France to Colorado, I quickly got to work with as many local organizations as I could. Volunteering mostly with a group called Earth Guardians, I was able to take my first steps towards leadership in the sustainability field. From mentoring grade-school chapters of the group to delivering speeches at conferences, it was clear to me what my reason for being on this planet was. My efforts led me to move from just organizing protests to actually working with lobbyist groups like Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, where I was able to further hone my knowledge on how to influence policy and make lasting change.

University of Colorado at Boulder - Undergraduate

ENVS (2019 - 2022)

Drawn to Colorado for it’s stunning natural landscapes, I was further captivated by the University of Colorado Boulder’s strong commitment to environmental leadership. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies in 2022 and am currently pursuing a Master’s in the Environment with a focus on public policy. Throughout my time I have had my fair share of impacting campus policy, working with student government, as well as working for the universits esteemed Environmental Center.

Creative Climate / Sustainability Fellow

Boulder County Government, Office of Sustainability, Climate Action, and Resilience

(2022 - 2023)

After joining the office’s director on a panel discussion about climate resiliency as part of CU’s Climate on World Affairs, she instantly saw my potential and hired me for a 1-year fellowship with the office.

In that time, I helped implement important climate policies around the community, sharpened my community engagement skills, brought to the table innovative solutions (including helping co-create the Climate Policy Action Leadership collaborative, or CPAL) as well as contributed to regenerative agriculture fundraising and grant oversight initiatives.

MENV (2024- Current)

Driven by my unwavering passions, I realized that my undergrad education was insufficient to fully realize my destiny. To bridge this gap and equip myself with the necessary tools to effect lasting change, I made a decision to apply to the University of Colorado Boulder’s Masters of the Environment program.

This program, with my focus being on public policy and leadership, aligns perfectly with my vision of a sustainable future. By immersing myself in this rigorous academic environment, I am confident in my ability to further become a powerful advocate for our planet and its inhabitants.
